Lutheran Hour Ministries’ Directors from twelve countries in Asia and Europe met for four days to share ideas and discuss plans for future ministry activities. Each director was asked to give a presentation on the challenges and opportunities in his or her country, and the ways in which they are able to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. Approaches to ministry varied, from radio outreach, to internet TV, text messaging, rallies, puppet shows, literature, Bible correspondence courses, evangelism training seminars, and many other strategies.
The event was hosted by the ministry center in Bangkok, Thailand, which conducts a variety of activities to “bring Christ to the nations.” The website of Journey into Light (www.jilthailand.org) states goals of this ministry center: “We at JIL seek to be a useful tool of the Thai church and its members in carrying out the responsibility of bringing people into Christ’s church. We seek God’s leading in utilizing Christian mass media as a tool for His church in Thailand in proclaiming the Gospel so that people are drawn ‘Into the Light’ to experience love, peace, and new life in Christ.”
At a time when most world “mission” organizations on concentrating on inter-church aid, Lutheran Hour Ministries International focuses on gospel proclamation based on the conviction that “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” It was a time of reflection, renewal, the sharing of ideas, encouragement, and planning for the future. Please pray for these hard-working, evangelistic ministries from throughout Asia, Australia and Europe as they carry out that mission undauntedly, even in the face of many difficulties and obstacles. I am proud to be a part of such a dedicated group of servant leaders!
