Lutheran Hour Ministries’ ministry center in Asuncion, Paraguay joined forces this month with Mission Opportunities Short-Term (a.k.a. MOST Ministries) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Paraguay in a compassionate outreach project—a free eyeglass clinic for people in the city who cannot afford eye care.
Members of a team from the United States helped operate the clinic, using MOST Ministries’ simple testing system to assess patients’ needs and then fitting the patients with eyeglasses that correct their vision appropriately. The clinic included a witnessing station at which the Gospel was shared, along with information about the local Lutheran congregation.
The LHM—Paraguay ministry center staff reports that the clinic was able to provide 509 people with new glasses—and a new outlook on life.
Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM)—Paraguay, locally known as Cristo Para Todas Las Naciones, relies on a network of staff and volunteers to share God’s love. The office reaches many people through radio broadcasting—still a very effective communications medium in this South American country. Through radio programs and newspaper ads, LHM promotes Bible Correspondence Courses (BCC) for both adults and children.
