During three weeks in July, Lutheran Hour Ministries-Mexico—known locally as Cristo Para Todas las Naciones (“Christ for all Nations”)—held a summer camp program at Academia Joel.
Forty children attended this year’s camp and there could have been more. The number was kept to 40 to allow the four teachers and five teen volunteers to best attend the students’ needs and to provide personal care. One worker, Legna, reported how these children expressed a real need for love, as many of them have working mothers (often single moms) and, consequently, lack the attention and maternal benefit stay-at-home moms can provide.
Compounding this issue in these children’s lives is Mexico’s unstable political situation and rising crime rate. In some areas where these children live circumstances are violent and dangerous. As a result many of these kids stay confined to their homes for safety reasons and don’t socialize and play with other kids as much as they naturally would.
As would be expected, this year’s summer program was a welcome break for these children and an excellent opportunity for LHM—Mexico to make a difference in these young people’s lives. Please pray for the teachers, volunteer staff and each of the children who attended this summer program. It is our hope and prayer their attendance will be a huge blessing to them and that God’s Holy Spirit will work in the lives of each of these children and their families.
